SHOW US YOUR HOME - KITCHEN TOUR

Kelly, over at Kelly's Korner Blog, started a "show us where you live" blog party. This week, we are to post images of our kitchen area. If you are like me and love to drive around and look at homes - especially when they open up the interiors of them - then you will love this blog tour. It gives you the ability to get ideas and see inside the homes of hundreds of homes. Should you have a blog and want to participate, feel free. Post photos of your kitchen and then link your blog from Kelly's. I took these shots really early this morning (well most of them anyhow - some were take on a different day - months earlier) and therefore the quality of the images is poor due to the lack early morning lighting. I hope you can still make out the jist of it all though.

I'm bringing you into our kitchen from the outer hallway. It leads from the garage, into our mudroom, and then into this hall.

This is a pass thru hall that leads directly either into our kitchen, off to our laundry room, or upstairs. Since we are showing images of kitchens, we will be heading straight into the kitchen itself.

Our "This house believes" sign - shown below - is one of my most favorite things we own. It's actually a cabinet door that has been painted and an old cross applied to it. The open door there on the left leads into the butlers pantry. More on that in a sec...

And into the kitchen we go...bad lighting and all...

For some reason, the lights look gold and yellow in here with the time of day it was. All of our lighting fixtures are actually silver.

In the glass cabinets, I keep a lot of beach style dishes. Dishes to do with the sea, starfish, etc. Some are white, some are blue. The closed off glass pocket door you see in the picture below is actually where I like to hide from the kids when on the phone. I can shut the door and make calls when I need quiet. There is a desk and more cabinets/draws in there.

This is a view (below) from the kitchen looking back into the hallway where we started. It leads to the mudroom, or upstairs, to the garage, to the laundry room, and also to the butlers pantry.

This is a breeze way area that leads from our kitchen into our formal dining room - below.

And below we have the formal dining room. We still need a buffet table for the far left wall in here. Unfortunately, I have yet to find the exact piece I'm looking for.

Below...looking at the breeze way hutch from our main foyer hallway/Part of the entry way. The dishes I have in these glass cabinets are my Step-Moms grandmothers dishes. They go beautifully in here. My Dad and Cathy gave them to us when we first moved into this house. They knew that they'd look perfect in that spot and they do! Very sentimental dishes to me. I treasure them each time I walk by them.

And back to the kitchen...

Next up -back to the butlers pantry (below). Normally this door stays open unless we are having company over. If people are here, I close it.

All of our pantry food items go in here on these shelves. I also keep lunch boxes, baking supplies, (not that I use them), etc. in here.

Again, below...we are back to the kitchen over looking the hearth room and the great room. I am one that doesn't care for things sitting around on my counter tops. I like to have open and clean space. Wide open areas. No clutter aloud.

Below, this is the hearth room. It's where the kids spend most of their time when I'm in the kitchen.

Looking back into the kitchen from the eat in dining area off the kitchen. Truthfully, we rarely use this vanilla table. Because we are a family of four, we fit perfectly at the counter stools in front of the sink when eating.

I love the striped rug under the vanilla table. Definitely gives off that beachy vibe that I soooooo love!

Below we have a view from our guest bath hallway looking around the corner of the kitchen into the heart and formal great room.

Below, I'm standing on the left side of the great room looking into the kitchen. Our great room is another favorite area of my house. I've tried to give it a very seaside vibe. It's a work in progress.

Remember that coffee table book I told you I got a couple of weeks ago? Well, it goes in here...

And there you have it...the kitchen and surrounding areas. I think many of you have seen our kitchen before but I don't think I've ever shown the view from our great room and such. I can't remember for sure. Either way, thanks to Kelly for a fun set of home tours. I've had a blast looking at everyone's kitchen pictures. You should check them out too. Click HERE to see all who are participating. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday. Brent just picked up lunch at 'Noodles' restaurant for us so we are off to chow down.

Nice flooring choice for your theme. I love the contrast. Also the tile splash at the cooktop is a nice touch. I love the ceiling detail in your formal dining as well.
Great windows, great light!
Love the beach theme, but you did it classy and not cheezy. congrats!

OK so great minds think alike...I just picked out a few kitchens at random and yours was one of my random picks. I love-love-loved it so much that I called my girls over and said, "OK, here's my favorite kitchen!" They all agreed that it was pretty wonderful. Then I went to my blog and saw you had commented on how nice mine was...probably about the same time I was trying not to covet yours!! OK so any time you want to trade, deal's on!! Seriously, I like living in a farmhouse but there's just something about that beach feeling that totally relaxes me and brightens my day. Your house should be in some kind of seashore living magazine...or any magazine, for that matter! Blessings to you!

Hi Jenn. Thank you so much for your questions. Our home is new. We just moved in last August. We've thoroughly enjoyed every square inch of it since moving in. The size is 8000 square feet which is a bit much for us as a family of four (with two younger children). However, we are hoping that my son and his friends will one day utilize all of the room rather than head out to other homes or places for fun. He is 10 and our daughter is almost 6. In the meantime, we use that kitchen and hearth area a lot.

Thanks again for your comment. I really appreciate you taking the time to pop over as well as all of the rest of you. Kelly's home tour is going to be so incredibly fun over the coming weeks.

Blessings, Angie Seaman

Where did you get that rug that is in the hallway that leads to your kitchen? LOVE it!!!!

5/03/2009 1:04 PM
Blogger Angie Seaman said...

Hi everyone. I'm going to try and answer some of these questions I've been getting about the house all in one comment. So here it goes...

Ashley McWhorter: that hallway rug came from either Bed, Bath, & Beyond or World Market last year. I can't remember which for sure but I know it was one of the two. Thanks for the compliments on it. I'm extremely picky about floor rugs. Hee hee!

~Amy: The color in our main level is a sea blue. Very light - almost a seafoam look to it at times. There isn't any grey colors in our house at all. Unfortunately, I'm unsure what the exact brand or paint color is though. We have the old can but it is packed away down in our utility room and I've never taken the time to go check although I've been asked this question many times. Shame on me! So sorry I am no help with that right this minute. :( Your compliments mean the world to me though. Thanks!

Danielle @ Living Out Loud: The wall hanging in that very first top picture came from a boutique here in Indiana called "Tangerine." It's one of my favorite little girlie shops in our new area of town. Can you believe that things was only $24 in that gift shop? I had to have it - especially when I realized it was under $25. Ha ha! Thanks for the compliment on it.

lkripp: My couch pillows for our oyster colored sofa in the great room came from Pier One last Fall. Hope this helps. And yes, our green damask rug in there came from Target. Glad someone has it too. Isn't it FAB? That was another one of my red labeled clearence finds last season. Gotta' love those bargains! Thanks for all of your sweet, sweet, compliments on our home.

Heather: The "This house believes" sign is a Canton, Texas find. My friend Shannon lives there and she gave me the vendor who sold them. I called him up and asked if he could ship it to me from there to Indiana? He luckily agreed. Unfortunately, that has been several years ago and I no longer have the name or number to the gentleman that I bought it from. I know he is still in business and sells at Canton though. If you are familiar with Canton, look for him. If you aren't familiar with the shopping experience in Canton, buy a plane ticket and go there now. It is by far the best shopping trip you will ever experience in your lifetime. Ha ha! I love it there! As for my den rug (wow - you went way back into the blog post archives - Ha ha!), that came from Hobby Lobby last year. Thanks for all of your awesome compliments. I really appreciate it!

I hope this answer mosts of the questions for now. I can't thank all of you enough for you overwhelming response and unbelieveable compliments on our kitchen tour. All of you are so very kind. :) There are really no words...

Can't wait for next weeks "Living room" tour.

Blessings, Angie

Hi, Angie:

Got your note. That's a huge living space. Love it.

I'm in MN, the name is ilovejim on Sheye's forum. Love all your pics -they are great. I really need to get those actions from her, so I can use them and make my photos pop!

MN can be worse than IN -- I'm actually in the NW part and it's so incredibly dull. I'm not originally from here, my family lives in AR, but I moved around a lot as the daughter of a career military father. My dad retired a few years back (he's only 58), but now works for the Secretary of the VA which is a great job. He is home for 2 weeks, in D.C. for 2 weeks, home for 2 weeks - it's a vicious cycle. And my mother is actually @ the beach right now -- seems to be one place you hold dear in your heart.

Your home looks so warm and cozy. BEAUTIFUL. I love the white and blue with the dark furniture, if you don't live on the beach then it sure looks like you could walk out the door and be standing on the sand.
Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful home!! I love the beachy accent motif and you've inspired me to "declutter." I am a picture frame addict and have just recently began removing them as a step toward my recovery! Love, joy and peace, Dana

Such a beautiful home! It is a great inspiration to embrace a color you love and go for it. I love the feeling of cohesion between the rooms. I am wondering where you got the drum chandelier shade in the eat in area of the kitchen. I've got a sudden longing for one of these!
Thanks for sharing

OMG... I think you have THE most beautiful kitchen I've seen! I'm doing Kelly's Home Tour of kitchen right now (yes... about two months late) but now I think I will go back and look at your entire blog.

I'm updating my kitchen this week (new granite counters and sink on Tuesday, new travertine & glass back splash and faucet today) and I'm SO excited!

LOVE your home!

I am in LOVE with your house and I'm now your newest follower. Wow, I LOVE the beadboard in your hall and that large black hutch is amazing. You have great taste.
