FAVORITE ROOM

(coming in the front door of our house)
A fellow blogger, Kelly, is doing a "favorite room" blog and has asked that we all participate. The key to the post is to share photos of your "favorite room" within your home. I don't necessarily consider mine a "favorite room" but more so like a favorite "area" inside my house instead. This area is my entry way or foyer into our home.
(looking into the entry way from our gathering room)
I have always felt that the entrance to a home is the most important. I look for what I call the "WOW Factor" when entering homes. All homes have it somewhere - and usually a wow factor can be found in the front entrance of ones home somewhere. Within those first few visible rooms. I am also a huge "front door" gal. I truly believe that front doors can either make or break a home. Basically the front door is like the "heart" of the house. It speaks volumes and says a lot about the family that lives within the home itself. Brent and looked at a home the other day while we were out and about that had front doors made of wrought iron shaped into crosses in the center. They were stunning - amazing - totally breath taking. There were really no words for them. It was like nothing else I had ever seen before. The crosses made of iron on top of the glass doors was sooooo me. LOVE LOVE LOVED the crosses. A house might be beautiful on the exterior but have a crummy front door and it just ruins the whole look of it. You can have a cozy home that is cute but have a front door on it that gives off the WOW factor and it does a number on the impression of your house. Is this making any sense? Ha ha!
Anyhow, here is the entrance to our home and the photos showing the area and views around it. As all of you already know, I collect crosses, so they are everywhere in my house. My wall in the foyer is know different. I found an old "made to look" vintage pew bench that gives a Gothic yet majestic feel to the foyer right beneath the crosses on the walls. There is also a cathedral style window mirror that sits next to the bench which has the same architecture and shape to it. You can barely see the mirror in the very first picture above in the bottom right hand corner. It sits on the hard wood floors.
This is just a view from our formal dining room into our entry way. I still have so much to do in this house should we stay here. We've been here five years now and I have yet to find window treatments I like for this dining room window or for our kitchen. Brent has recently signed a new ten year lease on a new office building on the North side of town. (which is about an hour from us now) He despises the drive back and forth from there each morning and night. I can't say that I blame him. The traffic is horrendous during those hours. I too, used to commute that same drive back and forth in my working days. It was never fun! Therefore, we made the decision two weeks ago to put our home up for sale. Part of it was because Brent has been wanting to move so bad and the other part was perfect timing because of the school system issues. It was either move North or move South and completely out of state to Florida. (which is what Brent would have us do if he had his way) You all know how I feel about leaving my parents though so the option of moving to Naples/Bonita is not an option in my book. Since then, we've been house hunting up North. We made an agreement with one another that if our home didn't sell before the end of August, we'd take it back off the market and stay put. We don't want the kids switching schools in the middle of the school year. So...the coming weeks should be interesting. My plans are to keep fighting for Kenidi's rights within the school district as though we aren't even contemplating moving. With the home buying market the way it is right now, it might take forever to sell a house in today's age. Therefore, we very well could still be in this district come August 12th when school resumes in the fall. So, we are continuing are fight as though nothing has changed - because technically...it hasn't. I'll continue to keep you posted on that transpiring news.
In the meantime, I'm enjoying my home as I always have in the past 5 years. Should we stay here and NOT move, we plan to do some changes to the inside of the house. (paint some rooms vibrant new colors, new carpet, etc. etc. etc.) If we do move, we've got our eyes on some beautiful new homes that we've toured up North. Change - it's a good thing!
Thanks for the "favorite room" post Kelly! It was fun!

I have a cross wall too, I will have to send you a picture!! We have the big entry way and high celings but I have to tell you they are pretty but our bills are really high. I'm starting to rethink how great I thought they were. I hope your home sells, our house in AR has been for sale for almost 10 mo!! I know crazy but it is a small town not a lot of jobs that way. Yours might sell right away that happens too.

I love your decor! You've done an excellent job all around~

We live in Florida and I could easily move up north (south isn't an option as we are in central FL now). The schools here are not what I'd want for my kids but we are between a rock and a hard place. Not fun! I've enjoyed reading your blog!

What a beautiful home. I love your tall ceilings and open feel. My favorites are your front door (I agree-the front door can make or break a house), and that fab bench. Good luck on the move!

I posted my favorite room as well and, have to be honest, failed to show my front door but in all truthfulness, it was a FAVORITE of mine when I found this house. I love yours as well. And also your display of crosses and the cute bench underneath.

Angie-I love your taste in decor as well. We just put our house up for sale by owner. Rich lost his job here back in September and has been working out of Chicago and from home since. We are wanting to downsize out of this house and maybe rent. Abby is starting her freshman year and made cheerleader so we are trying to find a way for this to work for everyone. On you next trip to FL, can you stop here in Brentwood on Concord road and decorate my house. LOL.
