KENIDI GOES VINTAGE

Check out Kenidi's "LOANER" glasses.
Talk about vintage accessories, eh?
These were a loaner pair from her eye doctor today for the next two weeks. HA! We went and got a 2nd opinion today regarding an eye surgery for her left eye that her optomologist was wanting to do. Luckily, we saw an optometrist today that doesn't feel the eye surgery is necessary at this point. She wants to try and treat Kenidi's eye with "vision therapy" before putting her thru an eye surgery. PRAISE GOD! This child has been thru so much that Brent and I just kept praying that this doc would give us a different alternative other than the surgery itself. Therefore, she gave Kenidi these "1901 vintage style" glasses to wear around over the next two weeks whenever she is doing table or desk work at school or something. She isn't supposed to wear them all the time - another PRAISE - because I have no idea how I'm going to keep these things on her! If this helps in the next couple of weeks, we'll have to order Kenidi her "own" pair of funky and trendy frames/lenses. She will then just wear them at school during her OT sessions (occupational therapy) as well as during her OT sessions at the clinic we take her to. When she is doing normal day to day things - she isn't to wear them. We will try to retrain that one eye to line up in the center rather than it wanting to turn in toward her nose as it sometimes does now. Because her eye doesn't turn in all the time, the doc today didn't feel as though she was a "drastic" case. She told us that her eye is working properly part of the time - which leads her to hope that we can retrain it to be successful the other "off" times as well.

Therefore, please keep Kenidi in your prayers over the next few weeks. On top of trying to "eye" train her, I'm trying to "potty train" her as well. She goes on the potty every time you put her on it. However, she hasn't mastered the concept of coming and telling me that she needs to go first. This is partly due to her lack of verbal communication at this point. We feel blessed that she has the muscle control to even do what she does thus far on the potty to begin with. We were told that we'd most likely experience severe delay issues with her in that area due to her low muscle tone. (Hypotonia) However, she is once again proving the doctors wrong. We are grateful for the progress she's made thus far given her developmental delays at the age of 4 and hope that the months ahead will show us even bigger strides.
If she does have to get her own lenses/glasses, I'm eager to find her a pair that are funky, bold, trendsetting, daring, etc. just like her personality. I'm thinking cats eye glasses from the vintage era encrusted with rhinestones. How bout' you guys? Mark my words - we'll find something a tad different from the norm somewhere - even if I have to go to the end of the earth & back to get them. We'll keep you posted!

PS...The old Tiffany song you hear playing in the background (if you are on my blog and not reading this update in an email) came on in the car today. Kenidi absolutely L-O-V-E-D it! We had a blast bee bopping to it. LOVE LOVE LOVE that 80's XM radio station. And yes, I'm waiting for the day when a sheriff or state police officer pulls me over on the road for being all across the center lane, swerving, etc. I'm sure some people contemplate calling 911 and reporting me as a drunk driver. This is not good considering how my AGD logo is plastered all over my back window on my truck as shown in the picture below. I know if I don't get pulled over that one of these days I'm going to come home to a nasty email from a fellow driver on the road that jotted down my website address off the back of my window as I was running him off the road. I apologize in advance if any of you even slightly experienced that today when Kenidi and I were jamming to "Tiffany."
However, if they only knew I was just inside dancing with my rock star daughter, they might think better of my driving abilities. Brent would beg to differ. He swears he's going to die in the hands of my driving one day. Kenidi has got moves though. She'd make anyone want to dance. I tell ya - she can shake those hips like no other 4 year old I've ever seen. The girls got skills!
Me on the other hand....I just look like I'm convulsing! :)

Hey girl,

So I just read your blog, and needless to say I am praying for Kenidi as I do everyday. And of course I so had to start googling kids glasses. Here is the 1st thing I found, I love the frame and the bubblegum pink color, of course they don't have rhinestones (girl we are way too alike!!) but I could so see Miss Kenidi sporting these cool specs!! : http://www.allaboutvision.com/whatsnew/eyeglasses-kids.htm

I will let you know if I find anything else. Whatever she wears she will be as gorgeous as ever!

love ya

Hi there,

I just read about Kenidi and her glasses. I am the one with Olivia Hope who has very similar everything with your daughter. We drive two hours to an eye doctor who specializes in kids with disabilities and vision therapy. He is awesome!! He works with occupational and physical therapists in the office and sees how vision affects the delays and how much it actually is responsible for bad postures, gaits, etc. Olivia Hope has prisms in her glasses which help with her lack of depth perception and peripheral vision. I am so glad you got a second opinion. I saw several opthemologists before this doctor. If you have any questions about our journey down this road, don't hesitate to ask!
Good Luck!!

Love the Tiffany, we were in Cub Foods last night and jamming to Paula Abdul "Cold Hearted Snake" that is another classic from that time, my oldest boy was embarrassed by my every word singing... it was fun!! I wonder if our parents have songs from their past that they just get that urg to get up and dance alil?

Kenidi looks great in the glasses, such a cute look for her... she pulls off the glasses great.

I totally had those 80's glasses back in the day. My glasses then were really realy bad. I will have to send you a pic so Kenidi will laugh - Dennis just thinks it is the funniest thing ever. So glad they are trying other methods then surgery. Therapy does work. It worked for my brother, and he still does not wear glasses.
3 hrs 20 mins, the offical count down.
