THE AFTER PARTY

So what do you get as a "gratitude gift" for a trio of coaches that have made an incredible impact on your son in just 3 short months? This was a question that Brent and I pondered starting way back in the middle of month one. We knew very early on how blessed we were to have the coaches we had. With each passing practice, it became overly evident the amount of talent that these three coaches had and just how committed they were to our boys. Shortly into the season, we began to notice our head coach, Scott McCoy, wearing New Orleans Saints gear to the practices. Once in a while he would wear a hat from their team or other times it was a tee that he was donning which had the saints logo on it. Either way, after watching him show up several times in their team logo clothing, I was confident that he was obviously a Saints fan. With that said, I went home and told Brent that we might have an idea to play off of if we could pull it off. Most of you probably are unaware of the fact that our next door neighbors sister, is actually married to THE "head coach" of the New Orleans Saints. Their coaches name is Sean Peyton. We've had the privilege of meeting Sean and spending a couple of brief encounters with him and his wife when they are in town visiting our neighbors (Sean's wife's sister). My husband has even gotten the opportunity to attend the combine with Sean and our neighbor here in downtown Indianapolis a couple of years ago. With that said, Brent and I went to work. We made contact with Sean and explained to him what kind of coaches we had on our hands this year. We expressed to him how much these men invest in our kids during the season and just how proud of them we all are. It was at that point that we shipped Sean three footballs and three New Orleans Saints hats. Even with as busy as he is, being an NFL head coach and all, he took time to sign those hats and balls for our coaches and address them personally by name from "coach to coach" with a special little message on each one. Sean Peyton was the NFL head coach of the year last year so we were praying that our coaches for Brennen's team would get a real kick out of these "gratitude gifts."(My husband, Brent, with the gift bags in hand, explaining to the coaches how much we've appreciated their time and energy into our boys this season. The three coaches from tallest to shortest - Ha ha - are as follows: Assistant Coach Roy Bauer, in the red shirt we have the "legendary two time Superbowl winner" - Head Coach McCoy, and at the end we have assistant coach Vaughn Williams.)

So...after we took home the Superbowl Championship title last night, we all as families - went back to a local restaurant to watch the replay of our game on local television. It was there that we had the cakes and also decided to present the coaches their "gratitude gifts." We pulled all of the parents outside on the sidewalk along with the coaches because it was somewhat loud inside the restaurant from all of the excitement. (as you could imagine) Brent gave his speech and then handed off the gifts to the coaches.....by the time we were done...I don't know that there were many dry eyes in the place. It was an emotional talk amongst all of the parents and coaches. It's so evident what these men mean to our families and to our sons.
Here are our A-W-E-S-O-M-E coaches wearing their autographed hats and holding their autographed footballs from Sean Peyton, head coach of the New Orleans Saints. Thanks Sean!!!
(Head Coach, Sean Peyton, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS-NFL)
We ssssooooo appreciate the time you took out of your extremely busy NFL schedule to sign these items and help us thank these coaches for a job well done!
(L to R: Assistant coach Roy Bauer, Head Coach Scott McCoy, and assistant coach Vaughn Williams)

We'll never be able to say it enough you three....THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! And coach McCoy, like you and I talked about last night...come next year when you are coaching 4th grade....we hope to get the call at the beginning of the season from ya' letting us know that Brennen landed on your team again. Ha ha! :) We couldn't be anymore pleased to know that we could have you as a head coach again next year. Come on now, I know you got some pull there in that league. Hee hee! You've attained legendary status now!!! Hopefully you can use that status and pull some strings during the coaches draft of players for us come next season. :) You guys are the best!

Brennen and I discussed last night just how sad we are that football is over. It almost seems like a crime to not have it year round, doesn't it? I'm counting down the days until next July when the league begins again. Until then, it's time to let my vocal cords rest and maybe-just maybe- I'll get rid of these 10 ulcers I managed to get during this season by the time next year rolls around. HA! Until then, I'll leave you with some photos of the days game and the after party last night. ENJOY!

A few shots of our parents and die hard Tennessee fans while at the game yesterday...

Coach McCoy's wife, Amber (A.K.A our little cheerleader), and Logan's Mom, Kristen

Before the game as well as practicing, stretching, and the game itself....
These next few are of Brennen taking in the sights from the field itself. He was in la-la land before the game began once he stepped foot out there. He and the other players were just "bustin" to get out and play on that high school football field. Our high schoolers have an astro turf field and so they were all very intrigued with the touch and feel process of that. :) I snapped a few shots of him as he was in his wonder and amazement out there prior to kickoff. He looked as if he was in a dream -watching the camera crews and all. I loved it!

The players gettin' a halftime lickin' from Coach McCoy! Immediately following our big win-Congratulating the other team on a job well done. After the game...Coach McCoy telling the boys how proud of them he was! Then, yet again, Coach McCoy on the run from the water jugs and coolers. Notice the black arrow...THAT'S HIM!
Him laughing after the drenching....
Coach giving a round of applause to one of our cheerleaders for sticking with us all season and being so devoted to our team...

Great season boys! This is what the grueling practices and never quitting is all about! How does it feel to be the best of the best???? See you all at the award ceremony on October 28th!

PS...The final score was 20-14. I must note that our coach pulled the opposing teams coach aside and had a quick talk with him. In the end, our coach allowed the opposing team to score their last touchdown and extra point on purpose. He pulled our boys aside and told them to basically stand back and let the other team make a run-a touchdown-and not try to stop them. It was the end of the game with only a few seconds to go. Our coach wanted the other team to be able to have another touchdown again before the game ended. Therefore, technically, the real score would have been us 20 and the opposing team 7. (20-7) However, I've seen him do this twice in our season together. It just goes to show and confirm his "integrity" and his "character" as a coach. Thanks for teaching all of us and reminding all of us how to always be a little bit nicer and a little bit more "giving."

Congrats! Isn't it fun!!??? What was the final score? One of our boys from last year was on the opposing team (Kameron Myers). Todd's uncle passed away and the funeral was yesterday so we did not make it to the fields to see any games. Our sesaon was great as well. We went undefeated and the lost out first play-off game. Our big lineman got stung in the mouth by a bee 20 minutes before our game and one of our good running backs was sick...oh well! You never know how the seaon will end. It was sad and I cried for days. My neighbors think I am crazy! Anyway, let me know the score when you get a chance. Let me know if you guys are ever up for dinner. We have a couple more football weekends laft and the nwe get a break! Take care and have a super weekend!

God bless,
Jenny

Brent/Angie: Anthony and I just wanted to personally thank you for everything...the cakes, the coaches gifts, etc. We appreciate it more than you'll ever know. I hope Brennen knows what special and wonderful parents he has :) Angie: I enjoyed spending time w/ the ladies on Friday night and I hope we can do this again or make it a "thing" we can do routinely. We can make the dads watch the kids and have girls night out more often! Your website blog is awesome! Your designs are awesome too! You are so talented and God has blessed you so much...continue doing God's work and I'm sure many, many more blessings will come! I really teared up when reading about your daughter. Anthony and I just couldn't help it when reading it. She is such a beautiful and special little girl. God will use her in ways we can't even image right now. May God continue to bless her with her progress! Anytime that you and Brent would like to get together w/ Anthony and I, just let me know and we'll make arrangement to meet for dinner or something. I don't want to lose contact until next season!

Again, thanks for everything!
Love, Anthony & Staci

What an exciting time for these boys as well as their parents. These are things they will remember for a lifetime. They will also replay the games in their minds and together many times also. It sounds as if the coaches were there to teach many things to their players. This is great. Brennen, I am very proud of you and hope you get to continue this love of football. Your great grandpa would be so proud of you and I know would have found a way to have been there at your "big" game. Here is a hug to you and to your sister. Have a great day. Love, Grandma Eunice

I just wanted to send a brief note to say thank you so much for sharing your son’s adventures in football. I am in Maryland and my 7 year old also plays. It is amazing to me to see how across the country young people are getting similar enriching experiences. We are also blessed with extraordinary coaches. We still have three weeks left…
Thanks again!
